Beliefs and Utility: Experimental Evidence on Preferences for Information
نویسندگان
چکیده
Beliefs are a central determinant of behavior. Recent models have assumed that beliefs about or the anticipation of future consumption can have direct utility-consequences. This gives rise to informational preferences, i.e., preferences over the timing and structure of information. Using a novel and purposefully simple set-up, we experimentally test key predictions about preferences for information along four natural dimensions. We find evidence that the majority of subjects prefers receiving information sooner. This preference, however, is not uniform, but depends on the context. When the environment allows subjects to not focus attention on (negative) consumption events, later information becomes more attractive. We also identify an aversion towards piecemeal information. Variations in prior distributions do not seem to affect information preferences. JEL classification: C91, D03, D12, D83

Revealed preferences and expectations: Evidence from ultimatum games
Behavior in the ultimatum game is modeled by exploiting standard nonparametric utility theory with the monotonicity assumption relaxed to a condition termed quasi-monotonicity. Proposers’ beliefs about responder behavior are likewise modeled nonparametrically, imposing only the restriction that proposers know responders have well-behaved, quasi-monotone preferences. Proposers are not assumed to...
متن کاملtransaction cost and Time inconsistency in consumption- Savings behavior(experimental approach)
Empirical and experimental studies demonstrate that the rates of time preferences are smaller in long run in comparison with that of short run. In other word individuals are present bias; and it is one of the reasons that the saving is less than its optimal level. The aim of this study is to examine if the dearth of sufficient information results in time inconsistency in individual decisions fo...

متن کاملThe Ultimatum Game: Interdependent Preferences in Experimental Setting
We approach the Ultimatum Game as a mechanism designed to elicit information about the preferences and beliefs of players. While remaining agnostic about the right way to interpret preferences, we maintain the assumption that preferences are interdependent the utility of a player may be a function of other players’ types. We explain the relation between the best known explanations of the experi...

In this paper, we try to develop and modify the basic model of the consumption-based capital asset pricing model by adding the growth in real money balances rate as a risk factor in the household's utility function as (M-CCAPM). For this purpose, two forms of utility function with constant relative risk aversion (CRRA) preferences and recursive preferences have been used such that M1 and M2 are...
